Our herd has evolved over the last 40 years with improved genetics to bring you the best milk money can buy.
Our boutique herd of 70 cows get to graze on 30ha of lush pasture on the outskirts of the seaside town of Oakura at the base of the Kaitake Ranges.
All of the offspring of the herd are handreared with the heifers calves returning to the herd when they are ready to begin lactation. We are lucky to have a number of generations within our herd.
In June of 1992 Layne and Helen purchased 200 cows from Layne’s parents and here began their ever evolving farming journey. Having such a passion for farming led to Layne and Helen developing their business to support themselves and their four children Loren, Nick, Grace and Lachlan.
Layne and Helen’s passion for farming has been passed through the family, with their eldest daughter Loren and her partner Rhys now running the Kaitake property and the young replacement stock.
It has always been in the families best interest to farm in an ethically and sustainable manner, in order to look after both our animals and the land we farm on. We aim to fully feed our cows each and every day so they are happy and making delicious high quality milk.
Layne and Helen and their family have worked hard to ensure all waterways are fenced and planted in native plants, as well as any areas of the land which are not conducive to having large animals stocked on them.
Farming naturally, ethically and sustainably means we can bring you a top quality product throughout the year.
